We had a white knuckle drive across snowy roads in the coast range without chains, arriving late at night. It was a great surprise the next morning with the awesome view. Rain squalls punctuated by sun for walks around town and on the beach – stunning sunset. The weather just a little cooler than those foggy summer days when people come in droves from the hot Willamette Valley and proceed freeze on the beach.
We walked down to the very charming trailer camping area with its lagoon and boat launch. They sell fresh seafood they catch in the bay. Watched the Sea Lions bask on the sand spit until the incoming tide literally covered them and they swam away. Went to Whiskey Creek Café and had two great dinners and a long chat with the owner who’s a kick! Sun came out today and it was sunny and warm on the deck.
It was a nice visit.

Thanks for having this facility available for me and my family. We really enjoyed the view and having family meals. This was a great place for my wife to keep our granddaughter while the rest of us went and caught some salmon. We will try to come back some day. We caught 26 pounds of salmon to eat!
We loved our stay here. The view and access are fantastic. Our family made great memories we will treasure forever.

We are here on our honeymoon. The cottage is so much nicer than we anticipated! Thank you for doing such a great job keeping those spiders outside only!
We thoroughly enjoyed walking on the beach at low tide (the tide tables are very useful) and we loved the Tillamook Cheese Factory and the Tillamook Air Museum – especially their very reasonably priced gift shops.
We took the beautiful drive to McMinnville to the Evergreen Aviation Museum and saw the famous “Spruce Goose”. Awesome exhibits, although the souvenir shop is very spendy. We ate at Golden Valley Brewers: a very nice and well-priced restaurant/microbrewery. They had more selection and better prices than the famed Roseanna’s.
All in all, we had a wonderful week and are sad to leave, but we’ll be back!

What is my definition of heaven? Could it be perfect, clear, and warm Oregon Coast weather? Bonfire at the beach for sunset viewing with s’mores and red wine? Long, long walks on the beach, throwing the Frisbee for Elvis and Tehya (Aussies)?
Or maybe the crab (fresh); clam chowder; smoked salmon, or Tillamook ice cream? Could it be the fabulous Blue Rose Cottage with its sunny deck, fresh blackberries, and cozy, homey feel?
My brother and sister-in-law joined us from Birch Bay, Washington (near Bellingham) for a much needed relaxation and we spent marvelous hours together.
Thanks, thanks, thanks!!

We have spent six fabulous days and nights at the Blue Rose. We have traveled to many different places, in many different countries, but this has been one of our best vacations.
Netarts Bay is truly a magical place, and the cottage was a very relaxing home base. It was amazing to feel as if we were outdoors even while we were indoors.
Our daughter loved the beach and the tide pools, as did our dog! I loved the very soft sand between my toes. We had great luck crabbing in the bay, and enjoyed our diet of crab and blackberries (or are they marionberries???). We hope to return next summer.
Make sure you look at the moon through the telescope-- it’s really cool. We’d like to suggest improved lighting in the bathroom and a new BBQ. This one seems to be at the end of its rope.

We would stay another month here if we had the time! The week was perfect, with all variations in sky and tides and rain and sun. The Swallows danced, the seals lounged, and our two pugs, Happy and Bunny, ran after Seagulls on the beach and snoozed on the deck in bits of sunshine.
We walked and read and rested, cooked crab and curries, and stared with amazement at the ever changing, lovely view. This place is healing. We’ll be back again, and I hope it doesn’t take another two years!

Once we figured out how to use the lockbox, it was great! Actually, we didn’t mind the rain much. At home right now it is raining buckets, which is really weird for Los Angeles, California.
Mom liked how “well equipped” the kitchen was. The seals – actually I guess they were sea lions – were fantastic! Our friends in Portland were all jealous.
This was also a perfect spot for a lunch with our friends – delicious razor clams and crab from Josie’s. the dogs, Mac and Oscar, came for a visit (they are Westies). The trails here were lovely and we really enjoyed the Cape Meare’s lighthouse. The beach path was perfect! We love the view!

What an awesome place to spend Christmas! My wife and I stayed here at the Blue Rose Cottage, and the in-laws stayed at Eden’s Garden Cottage next door, and we had an awesome time.
Our dog Bubba (a mutt, mixed with Pitbull, Dingo, Shepard) had the best time ever running around on the beach. We were fortunate to get a few days of sunshine, but we also had a couple stormy days.
During our stay, we ventured around the whole area, including Lookout Point, Cape Meares, the cave by Oceanside, Tillamook Cheese Factory, and many other things. All in all, it was the best vacation ever!
Thank you!

The Blue Rose Cottage was perfect for us! The volcano didn’t blow, and we got here in good order for 4-1/2 days of great weather and 3-1/2 days of storm! It was wonderful!
We have camped and rented from Netarts to Newport’s south beach for 30 years and I think this place is the best of all. We had our two granddaughters (4 & 7) with us and they loved finding treasures on the beach and reading stories.
Norm and I could do our art projects with good light and the inspiration was amazing! Our Border Coolie, Ace, loves the beach, too! He sits at the window and watches everything from his “perch”.
The view is spectacular! Thank you for the use of this special place. We are renewed as we leave to return to the world.

When we stayed at the cottage after Christmas of 2002, we vowed that we would be back in the summer for a whole week. It took us a little longer than we had planned, but was worth the wait.
We really lucked out on the weather – only two cloudy days the whole week. We used those to visit the Air Museum and County Museum. Both are worth seeing. We also ventured up to Rockaway (and froze out just like we did in winter) and, of course, to Oceanside. We were excited to find the tunnel thru Maxwell Point open. The beach, north of the point, has many interesting rocks and caves and is well worth exploring.
The rest of our days were spent on the deck or the beach below. Here are some of the things we observed, in no particular order: seals, bats, pelicans (a first for us after many visits!), sailboats, barge, kayakers, kite surfers (my favorite), clam diggers, many crabbing boats, a boat stranded on the spit (high tide is at midnight, will see if it’s off in the morning!), a man who walked into the middle of the bay at low tide and just stood for ½ an hour in water up to his chest (the seals found this as intriguing as we did), and a sunset ceremony at Happy Camp that involved a big tent and went on late into the night.
We’re not sure if it was a wedding or a memorial service, but they couldn’t have picked a more beautiful evening for it.
Our old dog help up well, making many trips up and down the stairs faster than we did. She even swam a little in the bay and dug for clams (with little success).
Thanks again for the use of your cottage. We had a wonderful week.

Man, this is the life…Our second Labor Day weekend at the Blue Rose has confirmed our suspicions – we are indeed cut out for the life of the beach bum. Sleeping, reading, walking, eating, sleeping, walking, eating…..is there really a reason to venture into the outside world? We think not. We grilled every meal, drank bourbon on the deck, had a champion of the world cribbage match and enjoyed every moment in between.
This place is wonderful and we can’t wait to come back.

Thank you for a week of peace and down time. Thank you for all the small comforts and touches that allowed our family to settle in here so comfortably and quickly (after 9 hours in a car from California with 3 boys and a dog!).
Thank you for allowing and welcoming 4 legged family members to come with us. Thank you for a deck large enough to really enjoy (not a 3 foot wide crammed space with a hibachi). Thank you for such a clean place!
Thank you for a holiday with our 3 boys and for NO videogames! We brought shovels and the boys spent the week doing serious sand works on the beach.
Day one, they recreated the WWII invasion of Normandy. Day 2 & 3 they recreated Hoover Dam on the little creek just south of the sea stairs. Day 4 they built bonfires at night. Day 5 they watched it all wash away.
“Mom, this is the best place, ever!” This was from my 15 year old son, who’s traveled the world and just returned from a 30 day trek on the Silk Rd in Asia, from Uzbekhistan to Beijing)
And thanks for the tip about Roseanne’s in Oceanside. Best Chowder ever! (Including New York, Boston, Dublin, San Francisco and LA). We went for a late lunch – no waiting!

What a wonderful week. The weather could not have been better! A couple of really hot days (80’s) but otherwise it was 70-75 degrees, clouds, mist and sun.
We found a little baby sea bird on the beach. He was in good shape but could not yet fly and appeared stranded. We got the name and phone number of the local wild life sanctuary “Wild Life Rehab Center of the North Coast”, phone #(503)338-0331. They do great work, rehabilitating wildlife and returning it back to its natural habitat.
We took a lovely drive north with our little bird in tow. They said they have gotten about 300 of these babies this season. They teach them to swim and fish, and they release them! Cheers!

Wow! What a terrific cabin. We arrived in the early afternoon on June 7th to warm sunshine and clear sky. A walk on the beach took a year’s worth of stress away in about five minutes. Our stay had a variety of weather.
We enjoyed our drives up and down the coast, and staying put and reading. We had friends join us on Thursday and their company was welcome and wonderful. Our last night had a clear sky and warm sun.
It was a wonderful trip and we loved the cabin! On a side note, thank you for having the satellite dish. As we lost President Reagan during this week, we were able to see the funeral and pay our respects.
Thank you for sharing this little slice of heaven.

I love the ocean in the winter. My husband and daughter brought me here for my birthday. We ate at Roseanne’s and you are so right. The wait was worth it.
We all took many beach walks with our pups.
We enjoyed wine and cheese on the deck and the seals on the sand bar. I think there were at least 35 of them. The cottage is cozy and provided a perfect getaway from our hectic Seattle lives.
I don’t like the idea of leaving today, but we need to leave to be able to come back next year.

As I write this, I’m looking out at sun on the surf – the first we’ve seen since we arrived. On the way here, we drove through snow, sleet, hail, gusting wind, and pouring rain, so being awakened to sun this morning was a delight
It’s been great to relax here; playing games by the woodstove, popping popcorn, napping on the futon, getting away from hectic urban reality – something we both really needed. And, doing it here at Blue Rose Cottage, only improved the relaxing experience.
Like so many others, we agree this is one of the best getaways we’ve found on the Oregon coast and intend to return. All of the details you included made it easy to settle in and feel at home. We had a great 11th anniversary!

This was a wonderfully fun week at the beach: lots of digging and beachcombing for Shane (age 4) and swimming, barking and seagull chasing for Sophie (dog). Unfortunately, Sophie ingested too much sand or unidentified beach “goo” and wound up with the runs (Never in the house)! But we did have to take her out every two hours, day and night, for three days!:(
The last two days, some Portland relatives came out to visit and we played Raucus and a very long game of triple Yahtzee! Jim won. Then we laughed hysterically at “The Gods Must be Crazy”, which nobody had seen since the early eighties.
We loved watching the seals and pelicans and Sophie even got cursed at by a Blue Heron. We had to go see the Tillamook Cheese factory where Shane was mesmerized watching them package all the orange cheese that he eats so much of.
The Air Museum was fun and the Oregon Coast Explorer was a blast even though the car rocked back and forth the whole way. The Cape Meares Lighthouse was all covered up with plastic for renovation – maybe next time.
This morning we ate at Rachel’s – huge pancakes! They didn’t give me a discount for being named Rachel!

To the cozy little blue cottage by the bay: we say goodbye to you. We are among the many visitors who have had the joy and pleasure of tucking sweet memories into these welcoming walls.
The long walks on the beach were soul and mind healing, the beautiful sunsets reminded us that another day had slipped by and we could look forward to another quiet evening by the water, watching the seals, the moon and the stars through the telescope.
We look forward to a return visit to this cottage and the friendly people in Netarts.
Thanks.

Over the past year I would wake to a view of suburban Southern California; for the last week I woke up to this beautiful view of the bay and ocean. Now let’s see, which one do I prefer…?
We had a wonderful time visiting our favorites like Oceanside and the Cheese Factory and we also had a great time exploring places we haven’t been before like Pacific City. Oh, by the way, if you’re in need of a quick lunch in Tillamook, served by an extremely friendly family, try Café 308 on South 101. Turn right at South 101, it is on the right about half a block down. The food is genuinely home cooked, the staff is somewhat unorthodox (remember my reference is Southern California) and you can look at some great hot rod and custom car magazines or buy a new hunting knife while you wait for your order. Great prices, too!
We’ll be back. Thanks again for letting us stay here.

Happy Birthday America! And greetings from your friends from the beautiful island of Ireland.
Oregon is everything we had hoped for: mountains, forests, and sea.
The cottage is a wonderful retreat. Temperatures in the 70’s were great, and a cooling wind which was welcome (not if we were in Ireland!). Most evenings we barbequed with the Pacific as our backdrop. The harbor seals numbered over 100. What a lifestyle! Ate and slept all day long.
The Schooner was a delight. We took a couple of hours watching golf on the ESPN network (US Women’s Open) and chatting with the barman, Dusty. The locals enjoy the Schooner and it is a great place to enjoy Netarts!
Coming from Ireland, our hearts remain at home. Paddy would have loved it here. A nineteen year old terrier, Paddy was the love of our lives. He died recently, but is still in our thoughts. The cats would have thought this cottage purrr-fect.
America is a beautiful country. Ireland is similarly beautiful. We have much in common.

Coming to the end of our week here and we’re not ready to leave! Weather has been perfect and even got to see the elusive “green slash” sunset coming home from Roseanna’s. Awesome!
Sitting out on your great deck reading, cocktailing or watching the tide come in, provided total relaxation. Plus, we finally got our grilled oysters at Roseanna’s--they were the best we’ve ever tasted! The oyster stew at Schooner’s is the same!
Hope to return next year.

Thank you for a very enjoyable mini-vacation. We all felt very comfortable here. This is a clean, cozy, well-stocked cottage with lots of nice extra touches! Our only complaint is we would have brought sheets for the futon if we’d known there would not be any.
The view and the deck are truly awesome! We liked watching the tide come in and out and having such an expansive ocean view was very peaceful.
We loved having Josie’s market a short walk away and ordered pizza the first night. Had a great dinner at Roseanna’s the second night and the service was actually extremely prompt. (We were there at 6:00pm on a Friday night.) The marionberry cobbler was truly fabulous!! Our two young children, ages 2 and 4-1/2, were very well-behaved at the restaurant and Roseanna’s provide a very nice childrens’ menu for kids under 12. Our kids had great grilled-cheese sandwiches with chips.
Likewise, we had a wonderful lunch at the Blue Heron Cheese Co. and our kids enjoyed feeding the menagerie of animals in the petting zoo there. We also took a tour of the Tillamook Cheese Factory and had ice cream.
Of course, we all loved the beaches at Netarts and Oceanside. Our dog, Bella, had the time of her life!
Thanks again for a lovely time in your cozy & warm cottage. You clearly must be good people!

As my daughter said (read the one before this), or to elaborate on what she said, we were enchanted with Blue Rose Cottage from the moment we set foot over the threshold. We spent some time nesting too, as an earlier visitor termed it. We discovered all the thoughtful touches here at the cottage, as we unpacked and moved in for our short stay.
What a view!!! We spent some time reading all the foregoing entries in this book. It gave us a warm sense of empathy and continuity with those who have recently come here with their loved ones (including, of course, their dogs) to find rest for their spirits, solace for their souls.
We’ve have a game of Monopoly going on the dining table the whole time we’ve been here.:)
The first day we investigated nearby shorelines. The second day we drove north as far as Manzanita, which is sooo pretty compared to places like Garibaldi and Rockaway Beach. Then we drove back, stopping at the Beach Pancake House in Rockaway Beach for pancakes and bacon, then at Gold Coast Antiques on the Tillamook side of Bay City (oh my goodness – what a great shop to explore!).
The 3rd day we drove south, because I promised my daughter we would eat at Kyllo’s in Lincoln City – a place she has heard me speak of for years. Regrettably, the coffee is no longer fresh – ground, strong or good, but the food is great.
What a lovely area this is, and the people are kind and helpful. We hate to leave tomorrow, but are thankful we had the chance to stay in this peaceful place for a few days.
Back to my computer tomorrow--it’s been nice to be away from it.
Enjoy, all you who come after us!

It was our first time here at the Blue Rose Cottage, and we enjoyed it! We couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to spend our time when not driving around and seeing the sights.
The first couple of days were sunny and our Schnauzer, Wixie, loved the beach. She really enjoyed running free, smelling new smells, and even venturing into the water.
The other days we spent here were colder, rainy, and pretty gusty, but we managed to find something to do. My mom and I have really enjoyed our time here (and the people), and will probably come back as soon as we can!

What a great overnight retreat this has been. We’ve stayed at quite a few places on the beach, but this one takes the cake. We were wishing it was longer, but here “a little dab will do ya”.
You’ve got great accommodations. The sea lions basked in the sun with some taking a swim. The boys had a blast down the beach and on a hill. They were covered in sand. Max, the dog, had more fun than he’s ever had.
Thanks for making your home available.

Our dog, Flora, would have loved it here. We had some great beach time in between showers. Evan, age 9, says his favorite things were a hailstorm, watching the seals, the Air Museum, finding a dead seal pup on the beach (well, not favorite, but certainly impressive and scary).
We also flew a kite, found a pretty big glass ball and an intact sand dollar. We spent one rainy day driving down to the Aquarium in Newport, which was great. This was a good spot for us.

Hello. I am a dog, and I am inspired to offer my perspective about my stay. After being cooped up at home in Portland, it was a blessed release to be here. The beach had sticks, other dogs and children which was all wonderful! Thank God getting to the beach was easy for my family, so we could go for lots of walks. I disdain getting wet (even though I am a half Lab and half Aussie mix), so you shouldn’t find much sand (at least not from me!).
All in all, this spot offers peace, something the world needs, especially these days.
Have fun!

Dear Blue Rose Cottage Owners,
This has been a wonderful 3 days! From the moment we walked into this wonderful cottage, to our final evening – watching the fire and listening to the ocean preparing for high tide – we totally enjoyed ourselves. We put more sightseeing, beach strolls, eating, and relaxing into these few days than most people do in a week!
The weather was incredible! Sunshine, blue skies…..even a gorgeous sunset were all part of our stay. We enjoyed the “ropes course” to the beach and look forward to seeing the completed stairway to the beach. This was the perfect spot all the way around to stay. We hope to return one day.

The rain and hail were relentless until we got to Netarts, then it let up. As we walked into the cottage, the clouds had parted and blue sky and sunshine greeted us with an amazing view.
I went about “nesting” while my husband built a fire and settled in the green chair. With the ocean on his left, me on his right and Speed Vision in front of him, he and I were in heaven.
The next day was windy and rainy (just the way we like it). We drove to Tillamook for breakfast and to Manzanita then back to the cozy cabin. What a charming comfortable cottage.
We were able to play with our new digital camera and took lots of pictures of the inside of the house, as well as of the ocean.
Early Tuesday morning we were greeted by a full moon, then sunshine and blue skies-even a part of a rainbow!
We traveled to Lincoln City and back to the Air Museum which is always rewarding. It has been a beautiful, sunny late afternoon. We will hate to leave in the morning. It’s been a peaceful visit. We’ll be back!

What a wonderful Valentine’s Day surprise this was! My husband tracked down this cottage on the Internet and not knowing the exact location took a gamble and boy did it pay off! Arriving here on Valentine’s day, I thought my face would crack from smiling so much!
The house was just perfect for us. The weather was a little wet and cold but it was still wonderful to walk along the beach. My husband found an intact sand dollar – a first for both of us.
We definitely want to come back. It was very hard for us to leave when scheduled. Having driven up the north coast to Astoria, this is by far our favorite area. We plan on bringing our family (6 kids & at least one of our three dogs) back in the summer.
This was a fantastic, incredibly, relaxing get away. Well worth the long drive from just north of Salt Lake City!

We had a great time here in this cozy cottage. Saturday was my birthday and it was totally clear and sunny. Gorgeous, blue sky!
We walked on the beach with our dog and enjoyed a quiet day right here watching the sea lions with the telescope. They are a crack up – what a riot!
We loved all their different positions they lounge around in. The view from here is just so incredible and healing.
Sunday we got a bit more ambitious and went crabbing in a boat we rented from Big Spruce RV Park. We enjoyed being out on the bay very much and we pulled the boat onto the spit and explored the beach over there. The driftwood trees and stumps were magnificent. Being over there was very special; lots of sand dollars and shells and waves pounding in.
Unfortunately, while crabbing, we had trouble holding them and measuring them properly. When we docked, the Ranger dude was there and checked our crabs. They were undersize and we got a $150.00 ticket!! We had planned on asking the boat rental fella if the size was right and if not tossing them back. So…..be aware and measure correctly once in your bucket or you’ll get a ticket for being in “possession”. Even the ticket couldn’t wreck our special birthday weekend though.
We relaxed a lot and had a great dinner at the Schooner. It was also so great to be able to have our nine year old Golden Retriever, Hannah, here by us. She loves the beach, too and the deck for bones and afternoon naps.
We wish you had a bed in between the hard futon we slept on and the too soft mattress we didn’t.
Thanks for having such a great retreat.

We’ve been to Oceanside and Netarts a number of times, but have never been in the winter before. We thought we might end up spending all three days inside storm watching, but we were able to get down to the beach every day and only needed rain gear on one day.
Saturday was overcast, but there was little wind and no rain. Sunday was much the same with some sunshine in the morning. How nice! Sunday afternoon we drove up to Rockaway and froze out after ten minutes on the beach. It’s nicer to be where you have the cliffs for protection from the winds.
The weather changed dramatically late Sunday night when a big storm blew in. They said the winds might get up to 65 to 70 mph. We don’t know if they did, but the storm woke us up several times during the night. The tide was high and frothy that morning, coming clear up over the large log at the bottom of the path. As the tide went out we saw many large logs and pieces of driftwood being swept across the bay and out to sea. There were no boats on the bay or out on the ocean this day as there had been previously. Very few people on the beach, too. We put on our rain gear and walked up as far as the Capes. The bottom section of their stairway had been ripped away by the storm. We also saw some very unusual pieces of driftwood that had floated past us on the bay now deposited on the sand.
At dusk we drove up to Oceanside and were surprised to see a big white tent set up on the beach. It turned out to be a film crew – probably college students – making a movie. They were filming this poor woman standing barefoot in front of the rocks wearing nothing more than a pink nightie. Hope she didn’t end up with pneumonia! If you should see this film and hear what sounds like a coyote yipping in the background – that would be us.
What our old dog learned on this trip: While it is great fun to pick up large stick and pieces of seaweed and fling them around, try not to hit your companions in the shins. They don’t appreciate it!
Herons are not gulls. They are bigger and crankier and even if you approach them slowly, they will fix you with a glare and may let out a bone chilling squawk that will stop you in your tracks.
As much fun as it is to run and splash on the edge of the bay, chasing gulls, you should know that you may not always find yourself in just knee deep water. When the tide is going out and the currents are swift you may be on dry sand on minute and in over your head the next paddling for your life. This is where it pays to have a companion to reach in and grab you by the scruff and haul you out, lest you be swept out to sea.
Wish we had another three days!

What a wonderful, relaxing, beautiful week. Except for the first day of my week’s stay, the weather was perfect--pure sunshine and blue sky.
Your cottage is an exceptional place to spend time away from the business of everyday life. My work has been hectic and full of long hours. My week here was just the tonic I needed. I feel rejuvenated!
Thank you so much for allowing my “kids” to be here. I have two Rhodesian Ridgebacks as my constant companions. Long runs and play time on the beach is certainly a little slice of heaven for them.
I spent the week with a few visits from friends; a little shopping and a lot of “veg-ing”. I got ¾ of the way through a sewing project, making a quilt. Wonderful view to work in front of!
Again, thank you for opening your beach home for me and my pups, Ola and Malcolm.
We look forward to a return trip!
